James A. Balling, age 68, of North Tonawanda, died Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Born May 25, 1951 in Buffalo, he was the son of the late John and Eleanor (nee Thomas) Balling and was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and then was a member of the New York State Army National Guard. James was a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas and worked at Buffalo Pump Company in North Tonawanda where he was a union representative for the United Steel Workers at the plant. He was a member and past-president of National Hose Co. No. 1 in Tonawanda, and a member of the Tonawanda Racing Association.
He was the father of Jamie (Mark Lopez) Balling of Kenmore; grandfather of Stephanie, Robbie, James, Mark, Miguel, and Elisa; brother of Rick (Sue) Balling of the Town of Tonawanda, Dawn (John) Schneider of Tonawanda, Mary (Trey) Hambleton of Tonawanda, and the late John Balling; and brother-in-law of Pat Cadwalader of Tonawanda. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Carson and Natalia, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-5 PM on Sunday at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda, where Funeral Services will be held at 5 PM Sunday. Military Honors will be offered at that time. Entombment will be cared for privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to Hospice are preferred by the family.
