Gloria (nee Kertz) Lavin, age 93, by the Grace of the Good Lord was peacefully welcomed into her Heavenly Family, on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo. Gloria was pre-deceased by her husband Leo J. Lavin, grandson Eric Hodge, and sister Mary Gressman. Gloria was a WWII Marine Corps veteran and served as Chaplain of Retired Marines in Tonawanda. In addition, Gloria devoted years of service, caring for and mentoring Special Needs children under the auspices of The Heritage Foundation, as well as being a foster grandmother.
Gloria is survived by her children: Mary (Robert) Bojan of Eden, Daniel (late Renee`) Lavin of Lewiston, Patrick (Nan) Lavin of Atlanta, Georgia, and Timothy (Mary Jo) Lavin of Sheridan, Wyoming. Her children blessed her with five grandchildren who in turn blessed her with six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Patricia Reddy.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM Sunday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., 37 Adam Street, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the Marine Corps League, Conrad F. Kania Detachment #230, PO Box 405, North Tonawanda, NY 14120, or to Hospice Foundation of WNY, PO Box 590, Buffalo, NY 14240, are preferred by the family.
