Glen E Schmarder, died Monday, June 24, 2019. He was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Clarence and Anna (nee Filleman) Schmarder and had been a resident of the City of Tonawanda since 1947. Glen served in WWII and retired from New York Telephone in 1982.
He was the husband of 69 years to the late Patricia (nee Dowd) Schmarder, who died in January 2017. She was the love of his life, and they were totally devoted to each other and their family. They are survived by their 4 favorite daughters; Carol (David) Reichel of Chandler AZ, Mary Mallory of Phoenix, AZ, Jean Bandes of Waddell, AZ, and Janice (Brian) Fisher of Tonawanda. Also survived by 11 grandchildren as well as many Great and Great-Great grandchildren.
Glen was a man of integrity. He was humble and generous. He had an unwavering compass of right and wrong, and behaved with honor for all of his 98 ½ years. Glen was patient and calm (4 favorite daughters, remember?), and had a well-honed sense of humor. A practical and unpretentious guy, he valued honesty and hard work. He never spoke badly of others, believed in forgiveness and loved his family unconditionally. He always had a jigsaw puzzle and a crossword puzzle in progress, and absolutely preferred dessert to vegetables!
Glen and Pat loved to travel, square dance, and play bridge. They camped and traveled throughout the United States and were snowbirds to Mesa, AZ for 23 years. They were each other’s best friend. Glen was buried at a private gathering at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. He will be missed.
