George F. Manhardt, age 69, of Tonawanda, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness. Born December 19, 1947 in Buffalo, he was a disabled Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a Captain in the Army Reserves. George was a lifelong resident of Tonawanda and was a longtime volunteer, member of the Board of Directors and secretary for the United Way of the Tonawandas.
He was the son of the late Karl and Ann Hamp Manhardt and brother of the late Jane Gilmore Manhardt. He is survived by his two brothers, Michael (Jane) Manhardt of Cornwall on Hudson and Thomas K. Manhardt of Tonawanda; and his nephew, Karl R. Manhardt of Cornwall on Hudson. Also surviving are many cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Thursday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 150 Broad Street at Clinton Park, Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to the Disabled American Veterans, 130 S. Elmwood Avenue, #620, Buffalo, NY 14202, are preferred by the family.
